i just finished one campaign 2 nights ago which is leading into another one, with a more experienced DM. (a member of the group just taking over DM)
Im the only Evil Character and it seems that noone has actually figured that out yet, and i was nearly cloven in half by one of the other pcs was under a spell in the last session.

I had a short campaign going on in IRC with an old member (Veers) and some other people several years back.  It's doable.

I think I'd much prefer being at the table for dnd.

I cannot imagine playing over the Internet. You'd have to have a group of very dedicated people to play with if you didn't want them to get distracted easily.
